Sunshine and Strawberries

Sunshine and Strawberries!

It's here! Summer! I was just out to a local farm and picked strawberries to eat and put some away for a winter day. I always love to dip them in chocolate but my daughter, Melissa, suggested to melt "toblerone" to dip them in.  It's wonderful twist to dipping the strawberries with a touch of honey and almond nougat.

I trust the summer has arrived in your part of the country and that you are enjoying the finals days of your teaching  year.  I hope the summer will bring plenty of good times with family, friends and a good book.

Speaking of books, I do love to read, the latest two books that I've read , "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett and "The Long Song" by Andrea Levy have been moving and thought provoking. Have you read a good book lately, send me the title, I'm always looking for a new book to read.

Summer is a time for rejuvenation and also getting ready for the fall.  Why not have more  free time and order a few games, so you don't have to make any this summer!  Solo Time Music Games are designed to save you time and effort.

Enjoy your summer with good friends, a book, the beach and family.

Mindful Practice versus Mindless Practice

As music exams are approaching,  I am always thinking of how I must encourage my students to practice over the next little while.

Some of my students are just in the groove of putting in their 30 mintues of practice and then they feel that they are DONE!  But has any good gone into the practicing is the question?

At conference in Ontario two years ago the speaker spoke about
Mindful practice vs Mindless practice.

It's hard  to get our young musician's to think about every part of the song with purpose and intention when they would rather be outside playing.
